Ridiculous Music Video #4

02.12.2010 · Posted in Ridiculous Music Video by David Carlson

Soulja Boy’s “Yahhh! / Report Card” ft. Arab takes down this week’s ridiculous music video. Americans seem to be enraptured with individuals who can do whatever the heck they want (and get paid millions to do it), and Soulja Boy is no exception. But even if you are amazed at the life he leads, how can you not laugh at this video? Besides the clay Soulja Boy which is hilarious itself, the whole song is about yelling “Yahhh!” at people you don’t want to talk to.

Hopefully you find this video as ridiculous as we do!

New Gorillaz Single “Stylo” and More Murdoc Rants

02.11.2010 · Posted in New Music by Chris Bartels

Gorillaz’ infamous bassist Murdoc and his cartoon bandmates are preparing for their highly anticipated release, Plastic Beach, in a few weeks. Their third LP will feature big name guests including Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed, and Mos Def. Murdoc has been busy in the blogosphere these days, attracting a large following on his twitter for news, updates, rants, and raves. He’s even blogged on MTV arguing that Lady Gaga is a satanist.

So when the first single off the album leaked, Murdoc was of course not quiet about it. Here’s what he had to say on his twitter:

“A leak! A leak! Plastic Beach has sprung a leak! One of those Russian pirates has put a bullet hole in my island! My single’s leaked! STYLO!”

“Stylo” is an 80’s synth-driven track featuring Mos Def and Bobby Womack. If this song is a sign of what we might hear for the rest of the album, we know these cartoon stars are not afraid to move progressively with the current trend – retro.

Here it is:

Guante & Big Cats! live on The Current’s The Local Show

02.11.2010 · Posted in Bands by Charlie Wirth

Hot on the Minnesota local scene, Guante & Big Cats! recently performed live in The Current’s studios for The Local Show. Combining a talented, full band with a rapping/spoken word champ/slam poet makes for a good time musically.

Their album An Unwelcome Guest was released in January of this year, theming their songs after love, disaster, even zombies.

Take a look at one of their in studio performances:

Valentines Day Edition of Outsanding Lyric: Such Great Heights – The Postal Service

02.11.2010 · Posted in Outstanding Lyric, Uncategorized by Charlie Wirth

For out special looooove edition of Outstanding Lyric, I don’t think there is a better choice than this song:

Such Great Heights – The Postal Service

I am thinking it’s a sign
That the freckles in our eyes
Are mirror images and
When we kiss they’re perfectly aligned

And I have to speculate
That God himself did make us into
Corresponding shapes like puzzles pieces
From the clay

True, it may seem like a stretch
But it’s thoughts like this
That catch my troubled head
When you’re away, when I am missing you to death

When you were out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
“Come down now,” they’ll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
“Come down now,” but we’ll stay

I’ve tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat
Sounded thin upon listening

That frankly will not fly
You will hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
When this is guiding you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
“Come down now,” they’ll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
“Come down now,” but we’ll say…

Weekly Playlist 2.10.10 – Valentine’s Day Edition – Tension & Thrill

02.10.2010 · Posted in Playlist by Jordan Nimlos

Sleeping At Last says it best for this one, in my opinion: “Love is tension and thrill.”  Hence the title of this week’s playlist, in honor of Valentine’s Day.  Other than that I’ll let the songs speak for themselves.

*In the above 8track version of Tension & Thrill, the song “If You Live” by Matt Pond PA is missing in between Copeland’s “Coffee” and Barcelona’s “Colors.”  My apologies for the inconvenience.  The song can still be found on the sidebar, Lala version of the playlist.

New Eluvium Video and Upcoming Album Details

02.10.2010 · Posted in New Music, Video/Film by Chris Bartels

Eluvium has released a new video from the upcoming full length album through Temporary Residence:

The new album entitled Similies is due out February 23, and features elements which Matthew Cooper has never touched yet through Eluvium. There will be percussion, vocals, and song structure. It will be an interesting addition to the acclaimed ambient icon. Temporary Residence claims:

“Written, performed and recorded as always by Matthew Cooper in his own Watership Sounds studio, Similes marries Eluvium’s trademark dream-like aura with Cooper’s unique, laconic vocals, akin to an especially contemplative Ian Curtis with trace reflections of Magnetic Fields and Brian Eno. It is the most daring – and ultimately most rewarding – work of Eluvium’s impressive and prolific career.”

Check back for a Noisecake review of the album soon.
